Product Review, 123EDI

Summary

123EDI uses a very simple approach to EDI software and EDI integration - cheap is better. While 123EDI’s products are at the very low end of the market in terms of costs they are also at the very low end of the spectrum in terms of capabilities and ease of use. The challenges of using 123EDI’s products mean that while they might initially seem attractive and well positioned for smaller businesses, the reality quickly sets in that says the products will end up costing you a great deal more over time due to their poor design and lack of capabilities.

Strengths

123EDI positions itself clearly as a value leader. The products they offer do indeed provide one of the lowest initial investments required in order to become EDI ‘compliant’. Sadly that’s as much as we can say about the capabilities of the product. In our testing we found their solutions to be lacking enough where we simply don’t have much to write about in terms of strengths, and a great deal more to say on their weaknesses.

Limitations

Chief among the limitations of the 123EDI product offering is the poor interface and the lack of capabilities when it comes to integrating with third party ERP or accounting systems. This means that with 123EDI products you will quickly find yourself talking to customer support and trying to find ways of getting the product to do what it’s supposed to do. The whole concept of EDI is to make the process as seamless and hidden from everyday management tasks as feasible, sadly with the 123EDI product this was simply not possible for us.

Wish List

An easier to use product, a more well documented product and a product that allowed you to perform the level of integration necessary in this day and age are top needs with 123EDI.

Product Ratings

The product ratings below reflect our evaluation of 123EDI with a rating score that ranges from 1 to 5, with 1 equaling “fail” and 5 being an “Excellent”. Our overall score for 123EDI is of 2 out of a total possible of 5.

Product Area
Setup & Installation Installation of 123EDI was fairly challenging and required multiple calls to their support organization
2
Interface The interface can be complicated and relatively difficult to understand, the integration engine is equally taxing.
2
Features 1EDISouce products provide all the features you may need, but integrating with other 3rd party products is not intuitive and requires a number of steps that we wish we did not have to take.
2
Ease of use Overall this is one of the poorest executions we have seen in a while.
1
Automation Capabilities Limited automation capabilities put this product towards the bottom of EDI solutions, For more advanced operations this quickly becomes a problematic solution.
2
Integration capabilities Lack of integration options and over reliance on outdated methodologies make this a tough product to recommend.
2
Performance While the product performs reasonably well it's far behind in overall performance to leaders in the category like EMANIO, INOVIS and others.

  Overall Score 2.00
