Summary
Like many other lower end EDI providers, Softcare’s strength is its price. Softcare’s EDI products are not the best performing, are challenging to use and often seem like a collection of spare components thrown together, but they are certainly cheap. Ultimately, however, a business must decide if upfront cost is the best means of deciding on something as mission critical as EDI. For our purposes the answer is a resounding no and there are certainly better tools out there that make working with EDI and EDI integration a far more profitable experience than Softcare.
Strengths
The name itself might lead you to believe that you are dealing with one of the better EDI solutions on the market. Softcare however should not be confused with people like Softshare, EMANIO or Inovis - leading providers of EDI software and EDI integration technology. Softcare’s products fit squarely in the bottom rung of the spectrum and that’s reflected in the products which quite frankly have only one thing going for them - they’re relatively cheap. The downside, however, is that you will quickly loose that initial advantage due to the limitations of the product.
Limitations
Like other products from similar providers, Softcare’s products suffer from difficult to use interfaces, limited automation capabilities and a challenging integration component that makes taking your EDI data to your in-house ERP or accounting system a haphazard operation that will quickly negate any cost benefits you received by purchasing a lower-priced product. Beyond the difficult to use aspect of the products is also a sub-par performance that will satisfy only the smallest of companies out there. From a growth perspective the long-term costs of using these products far outweigh the advantages.
Wish List
An easier to use product with more power and a more seamless interface. More automation capabilities.
